About Hatheli Sansthan
Tilonia, nestled in the deserts of Rajasthan is not just a small artisan village but the epicentre of all the ripples caused by Barefoot College. Established in 1972, Barefoot College has worked tirelessly to uplift the villagers; branched into Social Work and Research Centre, Barefoot College International and Hatheli Sansthan, has taken many concrete steps to bring education, solar power, water and healthcare not only to Tilonia but 1300 other villages globally.
One of the noble initiatives by Barefoot College, Hatheli Sansthan is a non-profit organization focused on uplifting and encouraging the artisans in the vicinity. Since 2003, it has focused on the long-oppressed yet talented womenfolk of the village, it has provided them with employment opportunities from the comfort of their homes. In the process enabling them to produce an array of handcrafted home decor products, apparels, accessories and more. The organization has taken under five districts including 48 villages of Rajasthan and It has 384 registered artisans out of which 354 artisans are women who have been trained in various crafts. This has saved a lot of rich crafts from going extinct and the lives of many women who were doomed to the endless patriarchy of society.
Live Handmade Life- A Fabriclore Initiative
We've been toying with the idea of collaborating with an organization empowering artisans for the longest and the wait just seemed worthwhile when we came in contact with Hatheli Sansthan. Walking through the very corridors of the place solidified our belief even more. It felt like a safe house for all that's good about the Indian crafts and the austere life of a village. Sitting down with the women artisans and listening to their journeys was an incredibly humbling experience. We've joined our hands to bring their exquisite crafts to the forefront and do our bit by becoming their exclusive online partners. We've picked an assortment of bedsheets & bedcovers, cushion covers, handmade decor items and accessories that will house some truly unique designs.
Our goal with this alliance is to further cultivate original design thinking in rural artisans & enable the urban audience to enrich their artisanal roots and live a handmade life. A change that is inevitable and something that lasts.
