People Behind the Craft -
100% handmade by women artisans of Hatheli Sansthan, Rajasthan, each product is a success story of independent rural women pursuing the goal of sustainable livelihood and social parity. These artisans are trained and fully empowered to create these products from design to production on their own, taking cues from rural life and frugal living. Our goal is to further cultivate original design thinking in rural artisans so that they can independently create desirable and high-quality products for a global audience.
Design Philosophy -
The ancient art of storytelling through puppets is as old as 4000 years & more. At Hatheli Sansthan, Rajasthan the artisans have managed to keep this heritage craft thriving by crafting their own set of puppets which are not only used as a source of entertainment but also for spreading social awareness within the villages. A minimum of 6 days goes into crafting a single puppet, which goes through tedious process of boiling paper mash, mixing methi powder, shaping the figures using wooden stand, strings and hands, painting, drying, decorating and garbing them in hand-sewn colorful attires. Since it is a pure work of hands, artisans leave behind certain imperfections to retain inimitability of every product crafted, which only adds to the flavour of the great rural Indian artistry.
