What is Tapestry Fabric
- Tapestry is a finely woven cloth with several colours used to form a design or pattern, frequently made by hand,
- This is made by weaving coloured threads together in a pattern that is built up over time; the weave is frequently reversible.
- In this kind of weave, the weft passes over two or more warps, then under one or more of them, always changing the underpassage one to the right or left, creating a diagonal ribbing.
History of Tapestry Fabric
- From the later half of the 14th century to the conclusion of the 18th century, Europe saw its greatest tapestry making era.
- During that era, it was used for decorating castles and churches.
- Presently, tapestry is used as cushion cover, table cloth and other decorative items.
- In ancient Egypt, it was produced from linen fabric but now wool fabric is also used in manufacturing.
