Lakme fashion week has “all eyes on me” written all over it and is one of the most sought out events in the realm of Indian fashion. It sets the tone for seasonal trends as it puts forth a procession of exceptional designs by the most brilliant designers of the industry. Lakme fashion week winter-festive began on the 22nd of this August and has been buzzing up the media since. We, being Fashion connoisseurs went through the five-day gala and picked our front-runners for you:

Designed by Sanjukta Dutta, it features a mid-night black saree with brilliant accent shades of crimson and emerald. The belt and the take on the blouse add an interesting twist to an otherwise classic saree. Talking about the headpiece, it is reminiscent of the heavenly bodies theme of the Met Gala this year with a more tribal flair to it.

Ritu Kumar never seizes to amaze us fashion fiends and this time was no different. Aptly named- “Native Spirit”, the collection incorporates the tribal arts and wild west motifs in earthy tones, like this halter neck dress with waist cut-outs. The tassels and feathers are elemental to the Native-American fashion scene, the hints of which can be seen in those chic headpieces & bracelets.

Siddhesh Chauhan’s Samurai truly justifies its name, packed with dark hues and a play of asymmetrical patterns, his collection is a true jaw-dropper. This design is a living synergy of traditional sherwani, the sheer culture, and a tease of vintage tail suits.

Radhika Apte steals the show wherever she goes, and Lakme Fashion Week wanted the piece of that pie. She strutted the runway as the showstopper for Punit Balana in an angelic gown with a heavily embroidered bodice and a glimmering scrunched lavender skirt.

Lehengas are fashion staple but Jayanti Reddy’s “The Twilight Zone” shows just how much more can we do with them. All pastels with opulent embroidery on the skirts and blouses teamed with sheer embellished designer dupattas with artistic borders. Truly a fairytale wedding collection!

This monochromatic suit hails from Kunal Rawal’s futuristic men’s wear collection. The entire collection shows an elaborate spread of noble colors & style choices. Rawal took a more ahead-of-its-time approach on a classic suit or indo-western by suiting up Varun in an asymmetrical cocktail of Indo-western sherwani with a contrasting waistcoat.

A pinstriped blouse doesn’t exactly pop in one’s mind when one thinks about Indian traditional wear but that is precisely why it caught our eye. The design is an assemblage of oddities and yet they all gel together to present a showstopper look. A star-spangled skirt and a frilled dupatta with oxidized silver neckpiece are a no-brainer for a friend’s engagement or wedding occasion.

A black dress never fails to impress, and this surely has the same effect! Designed by Amita Aggarwal, this dress shouts bold and beautiful from a distance. It hugs all the curves in all the right places and highlights the natural silhouette of the wearer.

Amit Aggarwal also showcased his menswear this year and we are impressed at the core. This ensemble is like a breath of fresh air with a flowy sheer metallic cape and satin collar. It’s almost as if the model is floating over the runway.

Kartikeya went all in with his collection this time with vintage-inspired designs. This outfit, for instance, has an old-fashioned sheer high neck and the rest of the dress is covered in heavy floral motifs. The dress has an interesting jagged hemline with circular cutouts, teamed with glistening boots.
