For some, thinking about spring fashion trends in February may seem premature, but as we all learned last year, time flies when you're having fun, and we're not about to be caught off guard again in little over a month.
That, and daydreaming about next season's wardrobe has proven to be the most effective way to ignore the yearly 'new year, new me' hype.
The fashion industry, fortunately, is usually six months ahead of us, having displayed its spring/summer 2023 runways in September and predicting our new season ensembles before we'd ever thought about it.
Are you ready to proceed? See below to get a sneak peek at the spring fashion trends that will be everywhere soon.
SHEER JOY
While sheer fabrics have always been fashionable, their popularity will peak during the spring and summer of 2023. From dress overlays adding drama over a simple evening slip to more risqué lingerie-baring pieces, layering is a very sensual technique to bypass the more conventional paths of minuscule hemlines and plunging neckline.
LOW-RISE WAISTS
The 1990s-inspired low-rise waist is making a comeback. It seems that our beloved high-rise may be taking a lengthy holiday for summer 2023, as everything from trousers to suits, shorts to evening gowns, is receiving the low-rise treatment. Go ahead and flaunt that flat stomach by wearing a crop top with your new look.
HIGH-OCTANE SEQUINS
Don't feel like you have to repeat yourself. Although December has traditionally been sequin season due to the abundance of holiday events, the year 2023 is rewriting the rule and declaring spring/summer the optimum time for a little sparkle and glitter. It's important to note that the style's color palette has lightened up and become softer for SS23, with pastels, nudes, and soft pinks taking center stage.
COBALT BLUE
Although fuchsia was undeniably 2022's it color (thanks, of course, to one Mr. Pierpaolo Piccioli, who introduced the trend in March at Valentino's AW22 show), for SS23, the shade has been relegated to the background in favor of a vibrant blue. The color cobalt blue hasn't been trendy in quite some time, so its return is very much appreciated. Clothing like dresses, coats, skirts, and even boots have all been splattered with this trend before we get too carried away and go back to our neutral wardrobes.
BOUDOIR DETAILING
Even if it's not appropriate for the office, SS23 seems to be a particularly sensuous season, with boudoir touches taking center stage in evening wear. Starting with a seductive slip with lace trim fabric or going all out with hold-up stockings and lace gloves, lingerie is a great way to get into the spirit of the season.
PARTY BAGS
Maybe fewer of us would leave events prematurely if these were the goodie bags we were given after they ended. Rather than the Haribo, blow bubbles, and napkin-wrapped cake that filled the plastic party bags of our youth, today's evening bags embrace the maxim "more is more" in their embellishments.
