Actress Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got hitched last month on 23 June, following a low-key wedding. Sona’s look was simple yet breathtaking which transformed her into a magnificent bride, on the flip side Zaheer Iqbal was looking elegant and regal on his wedding day. They set the standard for a couple’s fashion—Minimal yet Stylish. Let’s swiftly cover their wedding outfit.
Henna Ceremony
Sonakshi opts for Alta over henna for wedding adornment, vibrant red alta matching beautifully with her ceremony outfit. Sona chose to wear a maroon red dress featuring intricate patterns with zari and zardozi embroidery having gold detailed metallic thread work with beads and sequence on it.
Conversely, Zaheer wore a beige color kurta crafted from fine silk featuring an embellishment of zari metallic thread work with resham (silk) embroidery which creates a sophisticated look for Zaheer.
Wedding Ceremony
Sona ditched the brand and opted for a minimalistic wedding look. She re-worn her mother’s wedding outfit for her Momentous Day and carried the same legacy in a simple way. She kept her wedding look minimal and wore an ivory-white rich embroidered Chikankari saree with a simple striped blouse. She completed her look by wearing her mother’s choker, kundan necklace, and earrings. Specific detail about the saree fabric is not disclosed but most of the sarees for such occasions are made from silk, georgette, and chiffon.
Zaheer Iqbal chose to wear the same hue with his lady love’s look. The groom’s wedding kurta featured intricate Chikankari embroidery, matching the elegance and theme of the ceremony. His kurta was made with a silk blend which adds a refined touch to his overall look.
Wedding Reception
Sinha nailed in her reception look. She looked like a radiant bride in a red brocade saree from Raw Mango. She wore a customized red blouse with six yards of Banarase saree. Her vibrant red saree featured “Chand Buta” with gold. Her red and golden Banaras saree was a blend of silk and cotton.
Zaheer looked dapper at his wedding reception. He chose a white band gala sherwani with a kurta set that featured intricate embroidery featuring geometric patterns with detailed gold and silver work of zari. The fabric of Zaheer’s kurta was fine silk.
Let’s talk about design techniques for Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding outfits
Zari and Zardozi-
Zardozi has been around the time of Rig Veda. This is timeless and traditional rich hand-crafted embroidery done by artisans. The word “zar” means gold and “dozi” means hand work. Zardozi was done by original silver and gold wire on brocades, silks, and velvet with beads and stones but is now replaced by low-price imitation. Still, in current times zardozi is a very popular choice for weddings and on fashion ramps.
Chikankari-
Chikankari is a traditional hand embroidery style from Lucknow. It can be done on a variety of cloth cotton, silk, georgette, etc. Originally it was done with white thread but now colorful silk threads are used to make fashion trends. Phanda and Murri are the stitches that are used in Chikankari. Nowadays, Chikankari is the most used embroidery in present trends.
Brocade from Banaras-
Brocade is a kind of decorative fabric rather than a form of embellishment. It is a richly decorative woven fabric made with colored silk threads, originally crafted from silk, intricate designs (Butas) are made with real silver and gold threads which gave a lustrous look but now it is rare to see original brocade because of its expensive nature. An original handwoven Banaras brocade is always made of silk and for making it a bit more comfortable, silk is blended with other fabrics.
