Kantha Cotton Fabric wholesale in Udaipur for Fashion Designer

Kantha, also spelled kanta or qanta, is a type of embroidery craft in Bangladesh and eastern regions of India, particularly in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Odisha. In Odisha, old saris are stacked on each other and hand-stitched to make a thin piece of cushion. Cotton kantha are made of muslin cotton and tend to be smooth & soft to the touch. The softest cotton kantha blankets are made with the most worn-in cloth; it makes for a trade-off, as the fabric is also the most worn and may not last as long. Traditionally, old cotton saris, lungis and dhotis, which had turned incredibly soft through wear, were used to make kanthas, with the thread for the stitching drawn out from the fabric itself. There are 7 types of kantha cotton fabric:

  • Lep kantha
  • Sujani kantha
  • Baiton kantha
  • Oaar kantha
  • Archilata kantha
  • Durjani/thalia kantha
  • Rumal kantha

The colours prevalent in this type of embroidery are those commonly found in daily life-yellow, red, green, black and blue. Natural substances were used for making the dyes of Kantha fabric. Explore an exclusive range of Kantha Cotton Fabric at Fabriclore.
