Spandex Fabric (Global)
A synthetic material, Spandex fabric is known for its capacity to expand in size & get back in shape without damage. The elasticity of spandex material makes it popular as elastane fabric too. It is made using polyurethane, often mixed with other fibres such as cotton, viscose, etc.
Cotton spandex fabric is very popular as a material to create athleisure, activewear & intimate wear. For more durable & heavy duty uses, nylon spandex fabric is used. Since spandex is a synthetic material made using polymers, it impacts the environment negatively. These fabrics do not biodegrade on their own hence keep on accumulating in landfills. However, they can be recycled to some extent & can be used again as recycled spandex material.
