What is Gabardine Fabric?
- Gabardine is a tightly woven fabric comprising several varieties of worsted, cotton, and silk fibers.
- Gabardine fabric is woven with twill weave.
- Best-quality gabardine uses two-ply worsted yarns, however single-worsted yarns, two-ply, and single woolen yarns are also used.
- Gabardine has a dull sheen.
- Overworking when ironing or pressing might produce a shine on the fabric.
History
- In 1879 Gabardine was made by Thomas Burberry who was the founder of the Burberry fashion house in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England.

Care Instructions
- Can be washed in a gentle cycle in the washer because their tight weaves are water and wrinkle-resistant.
- They can also be hand-washed or placed on a low heat setting in the dryer.
- Set a warm iron on the lowest setting to do a quick press.
- Advisable to dry clean gabardine blends with a high percentage of worsted wool to prevent shrinkage.
- Extra work during ironing or applying extra pressure can create a shine in the fabric.
