What is Poplin Fabric?

Often known as Tabinet fabric, Poplin is a tightly woven fabric.
It has a very fine quality of warp yarn as well as coarser weft yarn.
It is a plain, lightweight fabric which is ideal for making clothes as well as home decor products.
Poplin can be made with pure cotton, synthetic, or even with a blend of a wide variety of materials.
Cotton poplin fabric is light and cool and because of its conventional weaving style, it lets the skin breathe properly.

During the 15th century, the word poplin was derived from the fabric papelino which was created at Avignon, France.
The name was taken from the Papal residence from where it was initially produced.
Poplin became famous in the 20th century when it was used to make winter outfits.
In World War II, Military personnel of Britain, as well as the U.S., used poplin as their main fabric to make their uniforms. It helped soldiers to stay cool when needed, however, it was durable to endure harsh elements.
